YUM, IT'S NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CAKE DAY!

Cake has long been a delectable dessert around the world, with chocolate cake being one of the most loved treats. We can all reflect on past birthday celebrations and reminisce about the amazing cake we had for it.

The first chocolate cake was baked in 1764 by Doctor James Baker but it wasn’t until the 20th century that this dessert became more than just a luxury, with a decrease in prices making chocolate more accessible to the public. Since then, there have been many adaptations created, ranging from molten chocolate cake to lava cake, to Black Forest Gateau.

Britain loves cake so much that we spend over £1.3 billion on it each year and according to a 2020 survey from the BHF, the average Brit consumes over 2,268 slices of chocolate cake in a lifetime!

With coco a key ingredient in chocolate cake, eating it can help our brains release endorphins as well as reduce stress, so it’s no wonder that we are a nation of chocolate lovers.

An amazing TV programme that showcases this love of chocolate cake, is the hugely popular “The Great British Bake Off”. From Freya’s flower potty cake to Jürgen’s gluten-free triple chocolate cake, there have been plenty of yummy variations featured over the years.

Plus our official GBBO 2022 Family Organiser features a mouth-watering recipe for a vegan-friendly sticky chocolate and pear fudge cake. Why not give it a try tonight to celebrate national chocolate cake day!
